Thank you to the Hong Kong Mingde Association for inviting us to attend the "2025 Hong Kong Outstanding University Students Election Award Ceremony."
We sincerely appreciate the warm invitation. Our organization is honored to serve as a supporting institution and to join outstanding university students in the "Foodshare Guided Tour," gaining deeper insight into the philosophy behind the "Cherish Food" initiative and its food recovery operations.
During the activity, participants experienced the entire process of market food recovery—sorting and classifying food—and then distributing the organized food to local residents. This hands-on experience offered a direct connection to the social fabric of Sham Shui Po and the inequalities present within the community.
From a gender perspective, we recognize that issues of food, community care, and environmental sustainability are closely intertwined with women's daily lives, especially grassroots women. They are often the primary carers in families and the first to bear the impact of rising prices, poverty, and resource disparities. Understanding community and environmental issues is therefore also about understanding how gender inequality is shaped in everyday details.
We believe that young people are a vital force for driving social transformation. Through this guided tour, we hope participants not only learn about the ecology of food rescue and waste reduction but also develop sensitivity toward community, equity, and gender issues—and respond to social needs in a sustainable and empathetic way.
