"Possibilities Without Limits" Gender Equality Experiential Program

In recent years, public awareness of gender equality in Hong Kong has steadily increased. Nevertheless, gender stereotypes, implicit biases, and everyday gender discrimination remain prevalent in families, workplaces, educational settings, and public spaces. Many social norms and divisions of roles are often taken for granted, such as the belief that women are better suited to family caregiving, men should assume financial responsibilities, or certain occupations are more appropriate for a particular gender. These deeply ingrained perceptions not only limit individuals’ choices and opportunities for personal development, but may also lead to unequal treatment and disparities in opportunities.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Gender Equality Experiential Program has been specially launched. Through practical, interactive, and experiential activities, the programme aims to encourage the public to rethink gender roles, challenge existing stereotypes, and enhance understanding and awareness of gender equality issues, thereby contributing to the building of a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable society.

Program Objectives

  • To enhance public awareness and understanding of gender equality and gender stereotypes.
  • To encourage the public to reflect on gender biases and stereotypes embedded in everyday life.
  • To foster understanding and empathy towards people of different genders and lived experiences through interactive and experiential activities.
  • To promote the development of a more equitable, respectful, and inclusive social culture.

"What If There Were No Gender Boxes?" Gender Equality Workshops

The workshops will incorporate elements such as mindfulness and relaxation activities, and handicrafts as engagement tools to encourage participation. Throughout the activities, topics including gender equality, caregiving responsibilities, gender roles, and gender stereotypes will be naturally integrated into the learning process. Through interactive discussions, experience sharing, and small-group reflections, facilitators will guide participants to consider how societal expectations of different genders influence individuals’ life choices and opportunities for development.

By adopting a relaxed, participatory, and everyday-life-oriented approach, the workshops aim to make gender equality more than an abstract concept, helping participants connect it with their own lived experiences and thereby enhancing public understanding and awareness of gender-related issues.
