EOC 30th Anniversary Experiential Activity: "Unlimited Possibilities" Gender Equality Experiential Programme

本頁檔案 | EOC30

To mark the 30th anniversary milestone, the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has collaborated with the Hong Kong Federation of Women's Centres (HKFWC) to organise a series of free experiential activities for the public from August 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. The initiative aims to deepen public understanding of different communities in society and to promote the values of equal opportunities, diversity, and inclusion.

In recent years, public awareness of gender equality in Hong Kong has steadily increased. Nevertheless, gender stereotypes, implicit biases, and gender discrimination remain prevalent in families, workplaces, educational settings, and public spaces. Many social norms and divisions of roles are often taken for granted, such as the belief that women are better suited to family caregiving, men should assume financial responsibilities, or certain occupations are more appropriate for a particular gender. These deeply ingrained perceptions not only limit individuals' choices and opportunities for personal development, but may also lead to unequal treatment and disparities in opportunities.

To mark its 30th anniversary, the EOC has collaborated with the HKFWC to launch the "Unlimited Possibilities" Gender Equality Experiential Programme. Through practical, interactive, and experiential activities, the programme aims to encourage the public to rethink gender roles, challenge existing stereotypes, and enhance understanding and awareness of gender equality issues, thereby contributing to the building of a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable society.

Programme Objectives

  • To enhance public awareness and understanding of gender equality and gender stereotypes
  • To encourage the public to reflect on gender biases and stereotypes embedded in everyday life
  • To foster understanding and empathy towards people of different genders and lived experiences through interactive and experiential activities
  • To promote the development of a more equitable, respectful, and inclusive social culture

"Unlimited Possibilities" Gender Equality Workshops

The programme features "Unlimited Possibilities" Gender Equality Workshops which combines relaxation and handicraft activities with discussions of gender equality, caregiving responsibilities, gender roles and stereotypes. Through interactive discussions, experience sharing, and small-group reflections, facilitators will guide participants to consider how societal expectations of different genders influence individuals’ life choices and opportunities for development.

By adopting a relaxed, participatory, and everyday-life-oriented approach, the workshops aim to make gender equality more than an abstract concept, helping participants connect it with their own lived experiences and thereby enhancing public understanding and awareness of gender-related issues.

Details of the activities and registration arrangements will be announced on the social media platforms of the HKFWC in due course: HKFWC Facebook  Please stay tuned for updates.
