Family Support Assistant Program: Professional Peer Supporters

With the generous support of Kerry Group, WISE Sheung Shui will launch a one-year program titled “Family Support Assistant Program: Professional Peer Supporters” in June 2026.Through structured training and practicum opportunities, the program aims to empower grassroots women who have experienced changes in their family structures to transition from service users into capable Family Support Assistants. Participants will be equipped with essential legal knowledge, emotional support skills, and practical experience. As peers who have experienced similar plight, they will provide empathetic support to other women facing comparable challenges, fostering a network of mutual understanding and resilience.

We deeply believe that women who have personally experienced changes in their family structures are best positioned to empathize with and truly understand the needs of others facing similar plight. Therefore, the core philosophy of this program is grounded in women’s empowerment and mutual support. It seeks to transform the lived experiences of grassroots women into professional helping capacities, and to harness the power of shared journeys to build a sustainable, community-based support network that promotes social inclusion.

Four Key Areas of Professional Training:
The program provides participants with structured group training across four core areas: divorce procedures in Hong Kong and Mainland China, community resources and referral networks (such as child custody and housing arrangements), emotional support and active listening skills, and the psychological needs of children from divorced families. This comprehensive training equips participants with a solid foundation of knowledge and practical understanding.

Supervised Matching and Support Practice:
Upon completion of the training, Family Support Assistants will undertake 60 hours of supervised practicum. The program will match and assign assistants to support grassroots women facing family-related challenges such as divorce or separation. Under professional supervision, they will provide flexible and tailored support, including emotional guidance and referrals to appropriate community resources.
