Many people only see the sacrifices of carers. But we believe that carers are not only Carers, they are also DREAMers who can still pursue their aspirations.
Through the CareDREAMers Programme, we accompanied 10 carers in exploring their career and life planning, rediscovering their interests and possibilities, and providing resources to support them in pursuing their dreams.
One participant had spent many years caring for her two children and mother, making caregiving the longest “job” in her life. After her caregiving responsibilities eased, she began hosting a late-night podcast, sharing stories, interests, and reflections with women during the quiet hours of the night, building connections with others.
Another participant, a parent of a child with SEN, returned to study a Certificate in Applied Arts and Therapeutic Facilitation, transforming her previous teaching experience into professional skills. She hopes to use what she has learned to support other families on similar journeys.
A single mother started filming simple home exercise videos on YouTube, encouraging carers to remember to care for themselves while caring for others.
Another participant discovered a passion for magic, gradually becoming an amateur magician and performing on stage.
A carer’s life is not only about responsibility, it can also hold dreams. When society is willing to offer them space and support, those dreams can begin to grow again.
We are grateful to the 10 carers who participated in this programme and allowed us to see the endless possibilities beyond the caregiving journey. We will continue to create platforms for women to develop their own paths and shape their futures.
We provide a series of women-orientated service, including Counselling & Legal Support, Training & Employment Support, Gender Education, Caring the Carers, Cherish Food, Childcare & After-school Care, various Social Participation and Volunteer Development to promote gender equality in Hong Kong. We hope to enable women to develop their Confidence, Independence and Competence.
