Hong Kong Good Harvest

One of the pain points in the development of local agriculture is the lack of a local sales network. Supermarkets charge expensive shelf fees, and if the fresh fruits and vegetables are spoiled, overripe, or in imperfect sizes, they will be rejected by retailers, and these nutritious foods will be sent to landfill. Even if consumers can support local farms through wet markets, farmers’ markets and online stores, it is difficult to buy and pick up vegetables even though the community has a demand for local vegetables.

We need a bridge to connect local farmland with consumers. This project hopes to use Tai Po District as a pilot space to connect women who support local agriculture in Tai Po District, train them to establish a sales network for local vegetables, and enable them to contact farms to learn about the vegetables and quantities available in different seasons and climates, and to assist in the harvest before sudden worsening of the weather. This project will also coordinate the consumer network in Tai Po District, set up convenient pick-up points and sales points in various spots in Tai Po and educate the public on the value of “ugly food”. Consumers will hence develop good habits of purchasing local vegetables and reducing retail food waste.
