Jockey Club Women In Splendid Hope

In the North District, there are quite a few newly arrived women in Hong Kong, each with different needs. Remarkably, they face challenges in adapting to their new environment and have limited knowledge of community resources and policies. As carers, they also have little understanding of skills that can improve family life, such as enhancing the physical and mental well-being of family members, financial management, and parenting techniques.

Thanks to the support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, we have launched the Economic Empowerment Project in the North District - Jockey Club Women In Splendid Hope. We will offer family skills enhancement courses to the newly arrived women in the North District. Social workers and women volunteers will reach out to them through street stations, home visits, and other means, inviting them to participate.

They will undergo a 12-session skills enhancement course and two job-seeking skills courses. Upon completion, they will become community mentors and engage in a three-month internship, where they will provide guidance to other newly arrived women as students and offer advice on their family lives. We will also recruit them as students for the next round of skills enhancement courses.

WISE (Sheung Shui) will continue to provide childcare services, establish mutual support networks, and organize community exploration activities for women. We encourage more sisters who have recently arrived in Hong Kong to take a step forward, gain a better understanding of their residential community and the city, and equip themselves with skills to enhance their family life and improve their job-seeking abilities.
