Co-creating Women Workplaces

Influenced by traditional family values, many grassroots women need to leave the workplace early because of family care, but they are willing to return to the workplace. Therefore, the burden of family care responsibilities has become the biggest difficulty they encounter. Part-time or casual works seem to be the few options of women who wish to return to the workplace while taking care of their families. Compared to full-time jobs, part-time or casual workers have not only less income, but also no career path. Allowing women to have a job that supports them in taking care of their families and having a stable income is one of the difficulties in releasing women's labor force in the current society.

This 3-year-project aims to facilitate grassroots women to purue employment after a breat due to caring work or retirement. It is going to tackle social issues of povery and women's employment. Grassroots women are targeted in this project as they are always motivated to work due to dinancial needs. These women will be trained up as Child Care Assistants, which can, on the one hand make use of their care-giving experience, and on the other, supplement the demand of childcare service in Sham Shui Po District in which this project will be located. The flexible work model of Child Care Assistant fits the needs of womne with care-giving duties as that allows them to balance work and family life. At the same time, more childcare services with affordable price are provided to the low-income families in the District can assist them to women. More women can be released from caregiving work and hence improving their family income.
